Applications

Silane, SiH4 is a colorless gas that is spontaneously flammable in air and slowly decomposed by water; in the presence of aqueous alkali it is completely hydrolyzed to form hydrogen and silicates. Higher silanes, eg, Si2H6 and Si3H8, are known but are less stable than SiH4. These are analogues of lower saturated hydrocarbons.
