The Subsurface Assistant – Nonylphenol Ethoxylates Supporting Efficient Mining and Oilfield Recovery in South America

The development of South America’s abundant mineral and oil and gas reserves faces long-term challenges from extreme geological conditions and efficiency demands. Nonylphenol Ethoxylate series products, with their stability in harsh chemical environments, serve as functional additives to enhance recovery efficiency.

1. Selective Collector and Frothing Enhancer in Mineral Flotation Processes

In the flotation processes for copper ores in Chile, tin ores in Bolivia, and polymetallic ores in Brazil, fine mineral particles need to be efficiently separated from gangue (waste rock).

● Key Component of Compound Flotation Reagents: NPEs are often compounded with other collectors. Their molecular structure adsorbs onto the surfaces of specific metallic minerals, enhancing their hydrophobicity. Simultaneously, by regulating bubble size and stability, they enable target minerals to attach more selectively to bubbles and float, thereby improving the recovery rate and concentrate grade of the target metal. This enhancing effect is particularly important for stabilizing production metrics and reducing unit metal costs when processing ores with complex dissemination or fluctuating grades.

2. Performance Modifier in Oilfield Drilling Fluids and Crude Oil Demulsification

In oil and gas fields in Colombia, Argentina, and Venezuela’s Orinoco Belt, drilling and production operations face challenges from high-temperature, high-salinity formations.

● Emulsifier and Lubricant for High-Performance Water-Based Drilling Fluids: In oil-based or synthetic-based drilling fluids used for drilling sensitive formations like shale, NPEs can serve as auxiliary emulsifiers, helping to stabilize the drilling fluid system. More importantly, they can significantly reduce fluid loss and form an effective lubricating film between the drill string and wellbore, mitigating stuck pipe risks and ensuring drilling safety and efficiency for deep wells and wells with complex structures.

● Viscosity Reducer Aid for Heavy Oil Recovery and Transportation: For South America’s abundant heavy crude oils, their high viscosity poses difficulties for extraction and pipeline transportation. These products can act as viscosity reducers or components in emulsification-viscosity reduction systems, altering the oil-water interface state to form low-viscosity oil-in-water emulsions. This significantly reduces flow resistance, enhancing the economic recoverability and pipeline transport efficiency of heavy oil.
