Latest Market Intelligence on Bulk Chemical Raw Materials

1.BDO

Xinjiang Xinye’s Phase I (60,000 t/y) and Phase II (70,000 + 70,000 t/y) units began a full plant maintenance on May 15, expected to last one month. After maintenance, only one 70,000 t/y unit is currently planned for restart.

2.Ethylene Glycol (EG)

Market sources indicate that a 500,000 t/y EG unit in East China has recently switched production from EG to EO (ethylene oxide), with current operating rates reduced to 30-40%. Full EO production is planned to start in July.  

3.Ethylene Glycol (EG)

On May 21, EG outflows from major East China ports were as follows: ~6,000 tons shipped from Zhangjiagang’s main storage area and ~5,200 tons from Taicang’s two major storage areas.  

4.Diethylene Glycol (DEG)

On May 20, total shipments from two Zhangjiagang storage areas reached 1,517 tons, up 133 tons from the previous day. Current inventory stands at 34,600 tons.  

5.Potassium Chloride

Port inventories of potassium chloride in the third week of May 2025 were ~2.129 million tons, up 35,000 tons WoW but down 995,000 tons YoY (excluding bonded stocks).  

6.Trichloromethane

On May 22, Shandong Jinling’s trichloromethane bulk ex-factory prices were adjusted down by 300 RMB/ton: Dawang plant at 1,800 RMB/ton (cash ex-works) and Dongying plant at 1,800 RMB/ton.  

7.TDI

Customs data shows China imported 120.06 tons of TDI in April 2025, down 92.20% YoY, while exports totaled 35,643.87 tons, down 24.05% MoM but up 60.21% YoY.  

8.Hydrofluoric Acid

From January to April 2025, China exported 84,400 tons of hydrogen fluoride, up 12% YoY. Imports remained minimal, with exports dominating trade flows.  

9.Acrylic Acid

In April 2025, China imported 6,200.75 tons of acrylic acid and its salts, down 32.65% MoM, while exports rose 50.56% MoM to 7,480.65 tons.  

10.Dichloromethane

China’s dichloromethane exports in April 2025 reached 18,310.38 tons, up ~10.8% YoY. Cumulative exports from January to April totaled 73,200.01 tons, up ~17.47% YoY.  

11.Melamine

April 2025 saw melamine imports surge 80.03% MoM to 14.114 tons, while exports fell 13.47% MoM to 45,600 tons.  

12.Propylene Oxide (PO)

China’s PO exports in April 2025 dropped 38.04% MoM and 26.37% YoY to 215.56 tons. Imports plunged 86.91% MoM and 90.24% YoY to 1,960.43 tons.
