Aniline: Latest Industry Developments

Market Situation

Supply and Demand Pattern

The global aniline market is in a stage of steady growth. It is estimated that the global aniline market size will reach approximately 8.5 billion US dollars by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) maintaining around 4.2%. China’s aniline production capacity has exceeded 1.2 million tons per year, accounting for nearly 40% of the world’s total production capacity, and will continue to maintain an annual growth rate of more than 5% in the next three years. Among the downstream demands for aniline, the MDI (Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate) industry accounts for as high as 70%-80%. In 2024, China’s domestic MDI production capacity has reached 4.8 million tons, and the demand is expected to grow at an annual rate of 6%-8% in the next five years, directly driving the increase in aniline demand.

Price Trend

From 2023 to 2024, the global aniline price fluctuated in the range of 1,800-2,300 US dollars per ton. It is expected that the price will stabilize in 2025, remaining around 2,000 US dollars per ton. In terms of the domestic market, on October 10, 2025, the price of aniline in East China was 8,030 yuan per ton, and in Shandong Province, it was 7,850 yuan per ton, both increasing by 100 yuan per ton compared with the previous day. It is estimated that the average annual price of aniline will fluctuate around 8,000-10,500 yuan per ton, with a year-on-year decrease of about 3%.

Import and Export Situation

Cleaner Production Processes

Leading enterprises in the industry, such as BASF, Wanhua Chemical, and Yangnong Chemical, have promoted the evolution of aniline production processes towards cleaner and low-carbon directions through technological upgrading and integrated industrial chain layout. For example, the adoption of the nitrobenzene hydrogenation method to replace the traditional iron powder reduction method has effectively reduced the emission of “three wastes” (waste gas, waste water, and solid waste).

Raw Material Substitution

Some leading enterprises have begun to promote the use of biomass raw materials to replace part of fossil raw materials. This not only helps to improve product quality but also effectively reduces production costs.
